Pride, Parties & Protein: Staying Healthy(ish) at Manchester Pride

10 March 2026

Manchester Pride is one of the most iconic events of the year. It's loud, it's proud, and it's packed with glitter, dancing and plenty of drinks. But if you're someone who's into fitness or just trying to look after your body and mind, you might be wondering how to balance the party with your health goals.

Here's the good news! You can still have an incredible time without undoing all your hard work. It's not about cutting everything out. It's about making smart choices that still let you enjoy the weekend (and remember it too).

1. Choose Lower-Calorie Drink Options

We're not here to ban the booze, but there are swaps that make a big difference:

  • Vodka and Coke Zero instead of regular Coke (saves 100+ calories per drink)
  • Gin and slimline tonic – classic, light and refreshing
  • Hard seltzers – lower sugar, lower calorie
  • Dry white wine or prosecco over sugary cocktails
  • Light beers or alcohol-free options if you want to pace yourself

And for every alcoholic drink, try to match it with a glass of water. It really does help with hydration and the next day's hangover.

2. Don't Party on an Empty Stomach

Eat before you drink. It helps slow alcohol absorption and keeps your energy up. Aim for a meal with:

  • Protein (chicken, tofu, beans, eggs)
  • Carbs (rice, pasta, oats, bread)
  • Fats (avocado, olive oil, nuts)

This keeps your blood sugar steady and helps you avoid a 2am kebab run (no shame if you still go there).

3. Move Your Body but Don't Obsess Over It

If you're doing Pride properly, you'll be dancing, walking and moving all weekend. So don't stress if you skip the gym for a few days.

But if moving your body helps you feel good mentally, fit in a light session earlier in the day. Maybe a stretch, a quick upper body pump or some cardio to sweat it out before the glitter goes on.

4. Protect Your Mental Health

Pride is full of joy, but it can also be overwhelming, especially if you're drinking, navigating crowds or dealing with social anxiety. So:

  • Take breaks if you need to step away
  • Stay with people you trust
  • Don't be afraid to leave early if it feels right
  • Eat, hydrate and rest – basic but essential

And remember, you don't have to drink to belong. Loads of people enjoy Pride sober. You can party without alcohol and still have the time of your life.

5. Recovery Is Just As Important

After Pride, your body and mind might need some TLC:

  • Hydrate like it's your job
  • Eat balanced meals to refuel
  • Get proper sleep
  • Don't feel guilty for a rest day or three

Pride is a celebration of identity, freedom and joy, and that includes treating your body with love.

Whether you're drinking or not, going all weekend or just dipping in for the parade, make it work for you. Health isn't about perfection. It's about balance, and Pride is the perfect place to practice that.

See you on the dancefloor (probably holding a raspberry vodka and diet lemonade)
